In a manner, nope. We have such a small population, that outside of this area, we dont matter. That's why we as an area have to be smart, adapt and try to rebuild. Do you think that people in the DC area love to constantly have road construction slowing them down on their ways to work? Do you think they love to spend hours commuting to work for a trip that would take 15 minutes or less with our traffic? Nope, but you either move forward or you fall backwards. Do you not think that those ghost towns and the people in them felt like they mattered but eventually the numbers don't add up. Clinchco incorporated in the past, but eventually the numbers didn't add up and the cost to provide all those services for the town didn't add up.

I love Pound just as much as anyone else from Pound. But I am not so stubborn that I would throw a temper tantrum if a new consolidated school was built in wise. No matter if I had to go 20 more minutes out of my way. I goto Wise and Norton anyway for most of my shopping. Why not go there to take my child to school. This to me has turned into a war seems like. I have family that has lived in Wise all their life,also Powell Valley. Why do I care if my kids goto school with kids from Wise or any other school.

It is fine to love your home town, but I believe some just worship it too much. I am all for what is best for our kids in their future. Not my love for my home town or even my old school. It will hurt the kids in highschool the most, they will be faced with leaving their school behind. But if parents will encourage their children and prepare them for it then it can be accepted better than what some of these opinions on here are.

this is an interesting observation. But I dont think that it would happen. Although now that I think about it, I think there would be an increased chance for it at first because all the students would be dead set agains one another and rather die that be around each other.

Look, what about the facts Counts posted about what a small school is. You consolidate our schools, they are still small. It's great to have a 2-1 ratio of teachers/students but this area and the population here can't afford it. Population is down by how much from when the schools were built? Cost of living is how much more? How much more does simple things cost? You say, with your heart, you wouldn't want the schools to consolidate. None of us want that. The simple facts are even if you want the corvette with all your heart, you have to pay for it. The cost isn't just the cost, but the insurance, the gas, etc. We would all love to keep the schools all open but you have to pay for them.

No our kids don't have to hate or be against one another. Alot of it is how they are taught to treat others. My son has friends from many schools and they do activities together outside of school. Why should it be any different to be together in the same school. Once again it is how one it taught to accept consolidation.

I would never teach my child the garbage of accepting consolidation or that it is inevitable.
